Ruijie devices drive urban and municipal development in Urban-Xenet project

About the project  

Urban-Xenet is a project by Spanish telecommunications operator Xenet, which has been working for a long time to deploy Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure in the coastal municipality of Cullera, in the province of Valencia. The project involved enabling residents and visitors to enjoy high quality coverage throughout the area in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner. And this, in turn, would be a step towards the smart transformation of this city. Xenet was looking for a technology that would meet the expectations of the project and enable its implementation, development and management.  

About the problem, or how to create a reliable Wi-Fi network in difficult conditions?  

A reliable, secure and fast Wi-Fi connection is becoming a basic need for residents of cities and municipalities, especially those with high traffic volumes – including tourists. Hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and other places visited by guests, want to provide the highest quality wireless network and allow visitors to share extraordinary moments with their loved ones. However, implementing a reliable telecommunication infrastructure in a seaside location becomes a particular challenge. This is due to its specific weather conditions, such as high temperature and humidity. Therefore, for Xenet, the most complicated part of implementing the Urbana Xenet project was finding the right technology to do it. After many attempts, they found the equipment that met the requirements of such a specific network: external access points and  controllers by Ruijie.  

About the solution, or what makes Ruijie Networks products stand out?  

The RG-AP680 (CD) outdoor access points have an IP68-rated housing, guaranteeing durability and performance in environments with high temperatures, salinity and humidity caused by the sea. Urban-Xenet has so far installed 150 access points and the solution continues to be expanded.    

The Wireless 6008 controllers allow for quick and efficient management of any potential failures and technical incidents. A controller for 160 access points has been installed in the network, which will be expanded as the solution develops.

Urban-Xenet, in collaboration with Landatel Communications (Spanish – exclusive distributor of Ruijie Networks products), has succeeded in implementing a high performance Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure in the coastal municipality of Cullera. The Spanish telecommunications operator has decided to continue expanding and improving this solution in other locations as well.
