Wi-Fi 6 – the new, better generation of Wi-Fi.
We continue our weekly series of posts about developing trends in telecommunication. The second trend identified by FCA Experts is Wi-Fi 6!
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) is a milestone in the evolution of wireless networks, where data transfer optimisations have been introduced. Devices supporting this standard are increasingly appearing on the market.
What should you know about Wi-Fi 6?
✅ Wi-Fi 6 devices easily reach gigabit speeds, due in part to the use of 1024 QAM modulation.
✅ Expand the ability to support multiple devices without interference, thanks to 8×8 MU-MIMO transmission.
✅ By using OFDMA technology, you can better utilise the available bandwidth and gain lower latency in data transmission.
✅ Target-Wakeup Time (TWT) mode reduces the power consumption of devices.
✅ If needed, Wi-Fi 6-enabled devices successfully operate in networks based on older standards.
What’s the conclusion? If you are currently planning a network upgrade, it is worth using devices supporting the new standard, which will guarantee better network performance and efficiency. Interestingly, wireless networks do not stop evolving! The extension of the WiFi 6 standard, known as WiFi 6E, assumes access to new frequencies in the 6 GHz band, while the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has established (in 2019) a group working and 802.11be standard, the future WiFi 7.
